"Downtown" Port Moresby, situated between Paga Hill and Touaguba Hill; emerged towards the mid 1900s as a trade centre. With it's evergrowing skyline, this area has been long considered the CBD of Port Moresby with embassies, businesses and banks establishing their presence along Musgrave Street and Port Road.

Nowadays, Port Moresby is expanding towards the suburbs of Waigani and Gordon, being more centrally located with plenty of potential to expand. However downtown Port Moresby continues to offer prime commercial space with new developments inclusive of the Harbourside Precinct and Noble Centre, offering waterfront views and quality office and retail spaces to cater for the formal market of Port Moresby.

Being located close to the upmarket residential suburbs areas along Touaguba Hill and Paga Hill, Downtown Port Moresby offers some of the best restaurants and cafes with waterfront cafe's or hotel restaurants looking over Ela Beach.

Key Information

The population of Downtown Port Moresby mostly consists of the formal market since the migration of the ports to Motukea. With offices, restaurants, cafe's and upmarket residential apartments surrounding the hill sides, the suburb offers a great balance between work and play with the main beach just a short walk down the hill and the popular ring road track, perfect for the evening run after leaving the office desk for the day.

Things To Do in Town

You can find various shops in Downtown Port Moresby with the long established Steamships Plaza offering food courts, gift shops and cafe's in a central location. With the new Harbourside South expected to be completed in 2022, we will see new shopping centres at the end of Musgrave Street, complementing the retail spaces offered on the 8 floor of the Noble Centre

With new developments happening around the CBD, you can find underground nightclubs such as Club Illusions or Oktagon, sophisticated bars at Grand Papua and Crown Hotel, or open end restaurants and bars looking over Fairfax Harbour.

Port Terrance is a newly established upscale restaurant with live music and a large balcony looking over Fairfax Harbour. Located next to the Delloite Tower, workers can wind down into the evening enjoying the sunset from a high point of Downtown.

Club Illusions offers a closed-in nightclub within Steamships Plaza, with modern day music that attracts the younger crowds.

Harbourside Precinct located along the waterfront offers open air restaurants and bars including Japanese, Indian, Asian and Western cuisine in one area. Alibis is a new comer to the precinct, with a range of local and imported steaks. Enzo's Pizzas are open into the evening if you're looking to indulge into a large pizza and milkshake.
